The Boys, Matisse and Picasso

"My boys" pen and ink, Nov. 18, 2008

A few nights ago, my husband and I watched a great documentary program about the relationship between Picasso and Matisse. It was a very interesting look into how these two artists influenced each other throughout their lives, how they relied on each, and how they competed with each other. Their personalities were such opposites, as was their way of approaching their creative work. Very interesting indeed! (It was on Ovation if anyone gets that channel, I highly recommend this program).

Afterward, I found myself in awe of Matisse's work in terms of color, line, rhythm and composition. I've always admired his style, but this reawakened my interest. His work appeals to both the painter and graphic artist in me. And don't even get me started on his Chapelle du Rosaire in Venice... it's heartbreaking in it's beauty.

And in line with all that lovely color, I was just included in one of my favorite watercolor artist's treasuries on Etsy! Thank you Karen!
