Flowering

Last week was the fourth anniversary for my husband and I. He brought me lovely flowers...

 (note the lurking kitty)

And then, more flowers arrived in a lovely pot for our porch from his parents.

(note the the lurking cherry tomato plant.. more on him later)

Then the lurking kitty came into the open to investigate the baby radishes I'd thinned from the garden.

 (they were quite yummy)

There has been far too little time to paint or felt of late, as the garden has taken much of my time and I've also been blessed with a steady stream of graphic design work. However, there is a long weekend on the horizon, and I hope to have some new work to share soon. Oh the plans I have...

Check Out This Great Giveaway!

The always fabulous Ann Flowers is having a summertime give away on her blog, A Beautiful Party. Isn't this sweet ghostie drawing just to die for?

All you have to do is leave a comment on her blog about your favorite artist to be entered into the drawing. I had a tough time deciding, but Jim Henson won my vote!

Local Roots Grand Opening Celebration

What a fun time last weekend at Local Roots! The Grand Opening celebration brought a steady stream of shoppers who had an opportunity to enjoy delicious local food samples, live music, children's activities and more. You can read more about the day over at Digging In, the Local Roots blog. Also, there is a wonderful write-up by Jennifer McMullen at the Ethicurean.

Thank you to everyone that came out to enjoy the day and stopped by my table to say hello. I met a lot of fabulous folks and enjoyed great conversation! Many Woolykins found new homes, including a fuzzy-haired ducky that had only made his first appearance that day.

So what is next on the Woolykin agenda? Well, there aren't any events scheduled for awhile, so I'll be spending some time creating new critters. There are a bunch of little buns queued up outside the studio door...

Keeping a Promise

Before taking on this whole "I'm going to do an art fair!" endeavour, I knew I would be in for a lot of hard work and preparation. Some areas of my life would suffer neglect. Unfortunately, one of those areas was painting and drawing. However, as I set out to build up a wooly inventory, I made a promise to myself that as soon as my first gig was over, I'd start putting brush to paper again.

So, wasting no time, when I got home Saturday night from Oddmall, I did just that...

It began Marigold, 2010, watercolor

I'm not yet sure how I feel about this. I had no intention as I made marks and filled the space with color. All that mattered was the making of the marks themselves. It felt so good. Now I just hope that I can sustain that promise to myself and continue to play on paper...

Fantastic Mr. Fox

When I heard about this film last year, I knew it would, indeed, be Fantastic. A Roald Dahl book, filmed by Wes Anderson in stop motion!?

I finally had a chance to sit down and watch it a few days ago and I smiled from ear to ear throughout the entire film. Now, I'm a sucker for stop-animation (Rankin/Bass, Nightmare Before Christmas, Coraline...) and the artistry involved with the process, but Fantastic Mr. Fox surprised me with it's cleverness and uniqueness of vision. It was what I love about Wes Anderson's films, but animated!

Here's a nice little behind the scenes video...

And I just ADORE this concept art by Chris Appelhans (from CGRecord.net)...

Market Fun

Oddmall was a blast! The atmosphere was lively and all of the other vendors were so nice and talented. While the weather that day was not the most pleasant, there was still a decent amount of shopper traffic. I would like to send a big thank you to everyone that stopped by my table. The Woolykins and I were so happy to meet you! To extend the warm fuzzies, I'm offering FREE SHIPPING on all Woolykins through May 31st! Woohoo!

Jabba the Hut was the unanimous hit of the show, and while he found a home, I will be making another Jabba for the Woolygeeks shop very soon, so stay tuned.

So what is next for the Woolykins? Well, this Saturday, May 15, Local Roots Market & Cafe is holding a grand opening celebration to thank the community for all of its support. There will be lots of local food samples, demonstrations, kids' activities, art vendors and more. You can read more here. I'll be taking the Wooly Crew there to help celebrate. Stop by, check us out, and pick up some great local food and art.

Ready to Rock the Market and a Special Offer

What a long strange trip it's... well, not really, but it has been a fun couple of months building up an army of fuzzy little dudes for Oddmall. Now, it's finally here. Are we prepared?

There's about 40 Woolykins of different styles, shapes, colors and levels of insanity/cuteness.

Of course, there will also be plenty of the Woolygeeks on hand, as well as art notecards, mini framed prints, magnets and original art. Oh, and don't forget the needle felted organic catnip mice! Cat-tested, cat-approved!

If you are in Ohio and are looking for a fun way to spend your Saturday, stop by and check the show out! Address and directions can be found here. And just for my special bloggy friends, mention you saw this post on my blog and get 10% off your in-person purchase!
